Honeymoon disasters and how to avoid them

Your honeymoon is the most memorable trip you’ll take with your new spouse. Yet many people experience some type of problem that can spell disaster for your honeymoon. Here are some of the most common problems that can occur and how to prevent them from happening during your honeymoon.

Missing Your Flight – Getting to and from your special vacation seems like a no-brainer. Yet, if you are delayed for any reason you could miss your flight, sending your honeymoon on a track for disaster. Not only will your schedule be messed up, but you may also end up having to pay hundreds of dollars more for your vacation. Avoid missing a flight by planning to arrive at the airport in plenty of time for your flight. With today’s long security lines, allow at least two hours for continental travel and three hours for transcontinental flights.

Getting Sick
– It’s quite common to get ill when you’re on vacation, especially when you’re out of the country and eating new and different types of foods. However, a stomach bug can really put a damper on your honeymoon and it can take days to feel better. Sometimes you can’t help becoming ill, but you can take some precautions to try to stay safe.  Drink only bottled water, because your body may not be used to the different bacteria that could be common in local water. Stay away from street foods since they can sometimes be unsafe. Don’t eat raw foods, particularly seafood, unless you’re sure that it’s not dangerous.

Losing Your Luggage – It happens every so often, but if your luggage gets lost on your honeymoon it’s surely a stroke of bad luck. Don’t worry, though, this isn’t the end of the world. If you plan ahead, bring a carry-on that includes some of your important items (medication, toiletries) along with a change of clothes. This will give you at least one day to locate your luggage or to purchase some new clothing.

Encountering Bad Weather – You imagine strolling along the beach on your honeymoon with the sun shining brightly. But what happens when the weather won’t cooperate? Even the best of places can have a stretch of bad weather. Prepare ahead by researching indoor activities in the area in case you encounter rain, snow, or worse. Be flexible so you can find enjoyable ways to have fun in the area, even in inclement weather.
