How much to tip wedding vendors

How much to tip wedding vendors

Jul 29, 2014 | By: The Wise Wedding Planner

Tipping is expected by most of the wedding vendors, but there are actually no rules for tipping. Instead, tipping is done mostly by convention, meaning that it’s entirely up to you. However, many of your vendors do expect to get a tip. Tips can be provided in cash or may be added to the total final check. If you’re tipping several people for the same service (such as waiters) provide them each with an equal share. You can prepare tip envelopes ahead of time and hand them to your vendors at the end of the night. As with any tips, there are some rough guidelines but feel free to tip what you want based on the quality of service that was provided.

How much should you tip? Here are some guidelines.

Waiters and bartenders – Check to see if a tip has already been included in your bill. Often a gratuity has been added but it may not cover a tip. Think about a total tip of about 15% of the total food bill for wait staff and 10% to 12% for bartenders.

Hair stylist and makeup artist – Just as when you go to the salon, tipping your hair and makeup crew is expected. Tipping between 15% to 20% depending on the services performed.

DJ – Your DJ has provided music throughout your special evening. Although there’s a contract it rarely includes any type of gratuity. Tip your DJ up to 20% of the total bill.

Limo driver
– Just like any taxi driver, your limo driver should be given a tip. Standard tipping for drivers is about 15% of the total contract price.

Wedding planner – Yes, your wedding planner should be provided with either a tip (about 15% of their fee) or a personal gift.

Caterer – The caterer should be given a tip at the end of the event. Consider a total tip of about 5% to 8% of the total catering bill.

Musicians – If you have hired a musician or group of performers you should tip them a total of about 15%.

Photographer – Your photographer or videographer can be provided a tip of about 10% of the total bill.
